The interweb is abuzz about the second album from west coast folksters Fleet Foxes. Helplessness Blues is awash in Americana, with heartily strummed guitars and delicately interwoven harmonies. It's also a bit more challenging than that, with Robin Pecknold and the band pushing the Beach Boys meet Neil Young limits of their self titled debut.
Rather than play it safe, Fleet Foxes have split the difference between the conservative indie sound of say Band Of Horses and the more adventurous psychedelic spirit of Blitzen Trapper or Beachwood Sparks.
As an old waver, it's not in my wheelhouse — but you can't deny the beauty of this album, or the groundswell of love for the band. Have a listen for yourself via NPR:
