listen to wild beasts 'smother' now

The third album from avant pop darlings Wild Beasts, Smother, arrives next week via Domino. Once 2009's Two Dancers narrowly missed out on the Mercury Prize, this follow up has been much anticipated.

Some, myself included, couldn't quite get past the overblown drama and at times piercing falsetto on Two Dancers — but it seems Wild Beasts have restrained themselves on Smother.

It's a gorgeous sounding record that offers cues from the likes of Talk Talk, Radiohead and Elbow. Hayden Thorpe's falsetto is still there, but it's more textural and less brazen. Have a listen to the full album via the Guardian UK and see what you think:
