So this is as close as we're going to get to The King Of Limbs 2. A couple of leftovers — "The Butcher" and "Supercollider" — are being released as a 12" single in the UK, Europe and Japan for Record Store Day tomorrow.

Earlier in the week, Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien told the BBC:

"'The Butcher' is from the King Of Limbs sessions. 'Supercollider' was recorded during that period and finished off after the album came out. There are songs that we have started, that we never finished, but there's not like seven or eight finished songs waiting in the wings to be released now, or in the autumn, or something."

The good news is, we've got updated high quality rips, thanks to ianbhoy. "Supercollider" is the brighter of the two and has been known to make its way into setlists on occasion:




"The Butcher" is more percussive and sounds like a late edit from TKOL:



Truth be told, only a Radiohead completist will be hell bent on finding this. It's probably for the best that this is all that's left from those sessions. As O'Brien said, "When we start a new record, we tend to start afresh. It's kind of an evolutionary thing - only the fittest survive."


UPDATE:

Thanks to SKoA for the heads up...  the "Supercollider"/"The Butcher" 12" will get a US release June 14. As for the Record Store Day version, it's got the labels on backward due to "unforeseen circumstances that we didn't foresee."

Legendary indie Sub Pop is offering up a 19-track sampler as part of its Record Store Day releases.

Featuring J. Mascis, Blitzen Trapper, Lower Dens, MemoryHouse, Fleet Foxes, Dum Dum Girls, Mogwai and more, it's a great introduction to their current roster — which I guess is the idea.

Terminal Sales Vol. 4: Please to Enjoy! is packaged in an embossed, die cut case with 18 art prints — one for each of the artists — and a folded poster. And according to Sub Pop, it's a gift to you, indie music fan. That's right, free. As they explain, it's the capitalism of Record Store Day that prompts such generosity:

"Typical observance of this holiday includes the traditional very-early-in-the-day snatching up of the many exclusive and limited-edition releases offered for Record Store Day, and the also seemingly traditional not-very-much-later-in-the-day selling of these same releases on internet auction websites for greatly inflated prices."

So good on ya, Sub Pop. Now, how many of these will be available at your local participating Record Store Day record store.. who knows. Good thing you can stream it right now via the Sub Pop soundcloud:

Rhino UK has some lovely plans to celebrate Record Store Day this Saturday. Unfortunately, these are UK-only releases, so we in the US will need to hit ebay or ring up a mate in Merseyside.

First off, The Smiths classic The Queen Is Dead has been reworked into a 10" vinyl format. Johnny Marr consulted expert vinyl cutter Frank Arkwright to create new masters, promising incredible clarity. This pressing is limited to 1,500.

As for New Order, their classic 12" "Ceremony" (FAC33) gets a truly unique repressing. The a-side are remastered versions of the original New Order tracks "Ceremony" and "In A Lonely Place." The b-side are versions of those same tunes as recorded by Joy Division.

It's an amazing slice of new wave history, limited to 1,000 copies. Have a listen to a Joy Division recording of "In A Lonely Place":




And finally, Echo And The Bunnymen's triumph "The Killing Moon" has had its original radio promo 7" recreated.

On the b-side is a studio version of "Do It Clean," rather than the live version of the 12". Let's go ahead and listen to the a-side anyway:




As for the US version of Record Store Day, here's the whole list of what's available on our side of the Atlantic. Not quite the same, but still not bad.

More Record Store Day madness. Interpol have tapped controversial "witch house" act Salem to remix "Try It On" from last year's self-titled album.

It'll be part of a Limited Edition 12” Vinyl-only EP this Saturday to commemorate Record Store Day in Europe. Don't worry, a US release will follow in late summer.

The EP features the remix of “Try It On” by Salem, as well as versions by Ikonika and Banjo or Freakout. See what you think of Salem's work:
