stream pure x 'pleasure' in full

Here's one I've been meaning to get to. Austin trio Pure X — formerly Pure Ecstasy — just released their full length debut.

As the fetishist cover art suggests, with pleasure comes pain. In this case it's the lazily mournful vocals and at times blistering feedback. But despite such a seemingly dour outlook, Pure X's Pleasure is ultimately uplifting.

There are references to early My Bloody Valentine and Jesus And Mary Chain, but noisier moments echo the post-rock of Mogwai. And they may have borrowed Jim James' grain silo to record the vocals.

It's a pretty nice sum of parts that's best captured in the single "Dry Ice":
