Miki and Emma were the only girls I ever had in my freshman dorm room. Gala is inextricably linked to the memories of those days of awkward innocence — and to a lesser degree, so is Lush's first proper album Spooky.
The former, with its raw ambition, and the latter, with the guiding hand of Robin Guthrie, are essential artifacts of the all-too-brief shoegaze era.
