"I wear black on the outside because black is how I feel on the inside." Leave it to the ever-"Unloveable" Morrissey to reduce goth to its core. It's always been a cry for help or a middle finger to society, but mostly it's just a questionable fashion choice.

It's certainly not a musical movement anymore.

Long gone are the days of Bauhaus, Dead Can Dance and Sisters Of Mercy. Now if your sound is even a little bit gloomy you get hit with the goth tag.

Such is the case with Zola Jesus, or Nika Roza Danilova. She channels Siouxie Sioux with an extra coat of electronic sheen.

Not that it's a bad thing.


Her second EP, Valusia, will be released next Tuesday and she's poised to become the Twilight generation's subculture poster girl.
